FROM VALUES TO EVERYDAY PRACTICE
NGB’s 12 Golden Rules
Principles of accountability to the country, employees, clients, partners and the environment. They support our working culture and do not replace technical safety procedures.
01We meet our tax obligations.
Complete records and timely payments. No concealed income or fictitious transactions.
In practice
We meet our tax obligations fully and on time. We keep accurate records, do not conceal income and do not use fictitious transactions or tax-evasion schemes.
02Formal employment. Declared pay.
Zero tolerance for undeclared pay. Clear terms and fully declared remuneration.
In practice
Employment is formally documented before work begins. All remuneration and its components are recorded, with the appropriate taxes and contributions accounted for. We do not disguise employment through sham contracts.
03Zero tolerance for corruption.
No bribes, kickbacks or concealed arrangements. Conflicts of interest are disclosed.
In practice
We do not offer, pay or accept bribes, kickbacks or improper facilitation payments. Conflicts of interest are disclosed. Gifts, hospitality and intermediary payments are subject to defined rules and review.
04We know who we work with.
Checks before contracting: verified identity, ownership, restrictions and delivery capability.
In practice
We check counterparties, beneficial owners, applicable sanctions restrictions, authority and delivery capability. Material unresolved risks pause contract approval until the review is complete. Decisions are based on evidence, not rumours.
05Safety comes before schedules.
Unsafe work is stopped. No deadline or budget justifies bypassing safety barriers.
In practice
Work does not start without risk assessment, a competent team and verified critical barriers. Everyone may stop unsafe work without retaliation for a good-faith decision. Work resumes only after the hazard is removed or verified controls are in place. Safety covers people, well integrity and equipment integrity.
06Measure and reduce our impact.
From leaks and waste to site restoration. Environmental claims must be supported by data.
In practice
We assess impacts on air, water, soil and neighbouring communities. Within our scope, we control gas leaks and spills, account for water and waste, and manage noise and resource use. Site restoration is planned. We do not claim zero impact or emission reductions without measurements and a defined baseline.
07Engineering decisions need evidence.
Verified data, reviewed calculations and an accountable engineer. Methods must fit the task.
In practice
Decisions are supported by data, calculations and an assessment of uncertainty. Critical calculations are reviewed by another competent specialist. We apply recognised practices appropriate to the task, document changes and develop competence. Forecasts, pilots and verified field results are clearly distinguished.
08Fair competition. Clear commitments.
Clear pricing, realistic scope and agreed changes. No bid rigging or hidden charges.
In practice
We compete on quality, competence and justified pricing, not collusion. Scope, responsibilities, schedules and change procedures are defined before contracting. We plan funding, meet agreed payment commitments and communicate delivery risks early. Safety and required environmental controls are not treated as expendable costs.
09Dignity and equal opportunity.
Skills-based selection. Accessible working conditions, without discrimination, harassment or coercion.
In practice
We assess people against competence and objective job requirements. Discrimination, harassment, forced labour and unlawful child labour are not tolerated. Freedom of association and representation are respected. Reasonable workplace adjustments are agreed for individual needs without lowering safety requirements.
10Supporting veterans’ civilian careers.
Employment, training and workplace adaptation for Ukrainian Armed Forces veterans are a dedicated priority.
In practice
Supporting the civilian careers of Ukrainian Armed Forces veterans is a priority of our people policy. We recognise skills gained in service and offer role-appropriate training and mentoring. Return-to-work arrangements and adjustments are agreed individually. Selection remains skills-based, transparent and safety-conscious.
11Accountable digitalisation.
Protect data and intellectual property. AI assists; engineers remain accountable.
In practice
Software is used on a lawful basis. Data access is limited to authorised needs. Confidential material is not sent to external digital or AI services without approval. A competent person checks safety-critical automated outputs; decision accountability is not delegated to an algorithm.
12Speak up about risks.
No retaliation for good-faith reports. Correct errors; do not conceal misconduct.
In practice
Good-faith reports of hazards, errors or possible misconduct must not lead to retaliation, even if a concern is not substantiated. Reports receive an impartial review with confidentiality subject to applicable requirements. We address causes, not just symptoms. Speaking up is protected; deliberate concealment is not excused.
Respect for people. Room to grow.
Supporting veterans, making reasonable workplace adjustments and developing competence need defined processes and resources, not just good intentions.
